About the Allosaurus Dinosaur
The Allosaurus was one of the most successful apex predators of the Late Jurassic Period, living approximately 155 to 145 million years ago. Its name means “different lizard,” referring to its distinctive vertebrae that set it apart from other dinosaurs. This formidable carnivore could reach lengths of up to 28-32 feet (8.5-9.7 meters) and weighed between 2 to 2.5 tons. The Allosaurus had a massive skull equipped with dozens of sharp, serrated teeth that could slice through flesh like steak knives.

Its powerful hind legs and large, three-fingered hands with sharp claws made it a fearsome hunter. Scientists believe the Allosaurus may have hunted in packs, allowing it to take down prey much larger than itself, including giant sauropods like Diplodocus and Stegosaurus.
