About Stegosaurus Dinosaur

The Stegosaurus is one of the most iconic and easily recognizable dinosaurs from the Late Jurassic period, living approximately 155 to 150 million years ago in what is now western North America. This magnificent herbivore could grow up to 30 feet long and weigh around 5 tons, making it roughly the size of a large elephant. What truly sets Stegosaurus apart are its most distinctive features: the two rows of large, bony plates that ran along its back and the four sharp spikes on its tail, known as the “thagomizer.”

Despite its imposing appearance, Stegosaurus was a peaceful plant-eater that used its small, narrow beak to strip vegetation from plants close to the ground. Scientists believe the large plates on its back may have served multiple purposes, including temperature regulation, display to attract mates, or defense against predators. The tail spikes, however, were definitely weapons used to defend against fearsome predators like Allosaurus. Interestingly, despite its massive body size, Stegosaurus had one of the smallest brains relative to body size of any dinosaur, roughly the size of a walnut!

We hope you enjoy coloring our Stegosaurus Coloring pages as much as we enjoyed creating them! These free printable coloring sheets are perfect for home, classroom, or dinosaur-themed parties.
